Sims Castaway Lost Recipes?

Hopefully someone out there will have information or ideas on this.

On my cooked food recipe chart (in the game), I have some cooked food recipes showing, but about half of the page has a picture of the cooking rock with a fire going…and a big X crossing it all out.

Are these lost recipes that I’ll be unable to collect?  Why did this happen?  Is the fire supposed to be kept going all the time and if it’s not going then when the recipe pops up it gets lost?  That doesn’t make any sense but I can’t think of other possibilities.  Well, one other, that they would require an ingredient that for someone reason will never show up in this particular game.  Or maybe it requires some other fireplace upgrade that maybe uses a spit instead of the rock.

Sims Castaway Canoe

I’ve read across the internet of a few people who’ve made their canoe but can’t seem to get into it.  I did not have that problem.  The following is a list of the things that I did that involved the canoe and/or energy levels and maybe something here will help someone else.

  • You need the hammer and chisel to make the canoe.   (The Dr has a hammer handle available for trade.)
  • The canoe had to be worked on for at least 3 days.  When you click the canoe you get the option of examine or make.  If you click make, you spend all day working on the canoe, then have to sleep then go back and click make, spend all day working on it again, and repeat at least one more time.
  • At the end of the final work on the canoe, an arrow will pop up on the ground (it didn’t look like a normal arrow if I remember correctly…kind of skewed due to the angle of view).  If you click on the arrow, then you get the Next Area choice.  Clicking on that shows you pushing your canoe into the water and next thing you know you’re on the other island.
  • I had prepared food in my inventory.  (Some people had said something about “not enough energy”.)
  • I had a full sleeps rest, so my energy level was maxed.   (This is for the “not enough energy” people.)

Hopefully something from the above will help people.  If it’s helped you, please leave a note here telling which one was the problem’s solution.

Stuck on Sims *some spoilers*

Yesterday I purchased Sims Castaway DS.  I’ve always had troubles getting into games, but this one is really fun.  Or at least it was until I got stuck.  I don’t have the knife needed to make many of the items.  I need a boat to get to the other island, and while I found something that will be used as the boat…..I can’t do anything with it (perhaps cuz I don’t have the knife?)  I also can’t fulfill the help requests from three of the characters on the main island..until I get the boat.  Gotta get to another island to get the mango for the one lady before she’ll let me get seeds to plant the fruit that the guy wants for his dish, and I can’t make the dish the dr wants until I get the ingredients for it…which of course require the unknown knife.

 AGGGGHHHH!

I’ve been all up and down the islands, wondering if there’s one teeny little spot I failed to tap on that will produce the needed fruit.  But I have to say, my frustration level is getting pretty high and knowing me, if I don’t find some kind of solution soon, I may give up on the game.  But I don’t want to give up because other than this problem, I LOVE the game!!!

If anyone out there reads this and knows the solution, please tell me!!  Just remember, this is the DS version which is not like the Wii nor PS2….and apparently not like the PSP either.

edited to add:  ok, starting looking more in depth into the book and what the dr offers.  It turns out that to do the canoe i need to get the hammer, but i have to make the hammer.  The dr has a hammer handle to trade.  So I’m off to go fishing and bug hunting to get the fish and bug that she wants for the hammer handle.  (I have the other stuff she’s asking for it.)

Brief Focus Loss

I’ve noticed this past week that I’ve done horrible with paying attention to my body.  I believe I got caught up in the concept of “legalizing” foods that I began eating for taste instead of paying attention to my body and eating only when it’s asking for fuel.  The daily scale numbers have only supported that thought.  My 1.5 lb average reduction stalled out completely and even included a gain.

I know that Intuitive Eaters aren’t supposed to pay much attention to that…that they should be learning to accept these things.  But I refuse to.  Reducing this weight is very important to me.  Don’t worry though, I’m still not going to go on a diet.   But I will go back to the lifestyle dietary change I had begun with:  insisting on 2 servings of fruits/vegetables per meal.  And resuming focus on eating only when my body is asking for fuel.

I have to remember, food is for fuel, period.

Intuitive Exercising

I was reading a blog ( http://zmama75.wordpress.com/2007/10/02/lets-discuss-exercise/ ) this morning that talked about her previous approach to exercising and her current concerns on it.  Particularly in view of the Shoulds and Intuitive Eating.  After reading this, I got to wondering about Intuitive Exercising and what that would entail.

Would we ask our bodies if it wants to move?  or maybe ask it if it really wants to be sitting on the couch (or bed) right now (*looks innocent*)?

Would we ask it what kind of movement it wants?  What area of the body it wants to focus on?  arms? legs? core? Does it want to stretch? or strengthen? or play an active game?

I still believe that we work on nutrition to get healthier bodies, and do exercises to get a fitter body.  But not all movements are exercises.  Many movements are done just for the sheer joy of doing them.  When we walk around the block alone to think or chatting with a fellow walker.  When we ride our bike to the store or park.  When we..say..pick up a hula hoop (adult sized) or a jump rope or an active Wii game or a basketball or skiis or go jumping into rain puddles or swim in the lake.  One can view these as “exercise” and think “I have to do this”….or one can say, “I love doing this” or “I really want to do this”.

I think I’ve always bordered on the edge of Intuitive Exercising.  I’ve never been a fan of exercise videos unless I really liked them.  I never was into them for more than a week or so.  If I wasn’t enjoying it then I’d stop doing it and beat myself up over not being “strong” enough in willpower and commitment.  But there are things that I LOVE to do.  I love playing on balance equipment.  I loved feeling strong…but I prefer bodyweight exercises over lifting weights.  (and I know people who love lifting weights and get major smiles as they do so!)  I like doing things that have a purpose to them.  Such as biking to a place and not just biking for movement.  I love playing games but not particularly sports.  I like things that I can do alone but may want to show off later.  And I like to be able to see tangible improvements…such as being able to do more pushups, or tapping my thighs and noticing that the muscle was nice and firm just under the skin (before getting to the fatty areas…lol).

I LOVE these things, I get JOY out of these things.  And thus these become the types of activities that I look forward to doing.  As long as I don’t tell myself I have to or should do them.  And if I don’t want to do them on any given day, then why force myself to do them?  That would be kind of like…forcing myself to eat….or forcing myself to not eat.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know.  Easier said than done, right?  But, I believe I’m at least half way there already.  And that’s a start.

Intuitive Constipation?

It’s only been about a week and a half since I began listening to when my body is hungry, what it wants, and when it’s not hungry anymore.  The food mass has gone down drastically due to eating less than half of the normal amount of food.  Also, I’ve been eating way more protein type foods than I ever had.  More meats, more cheeses, and way less veggies/fruits.  The result?  Constipation for the past week.  Argh!

So today I’m going to purchase an over-the-counter product called Citrucel.  Which is a fiber supplement.  I thought hard about it, weighing the pros and cons.  And have decided that I will take the fiber supplement while I work on convincing my body to want more fibery foods.  I’m not talking about forcing my body to eat salads and such.  But of definitely including veggies on my plate with each meal…even if it’s not initially asking for them.
